Events

Weekly Sports Camps
To be held this Fall Sep. thru Nov. 4-6 PM outside in Durham communities where CEF club ministry already exists. Multiple coaching and ministry opportunities are available. Contact CEF at 919.399.1979 if interested in serving with these events.


Duke 2010  Reconciler's Weekend Conference
Sep. 24-25 at Duke Divinity School 

Reconcilers Weekend is an annual event hosted by the Duke Center for Reconciliation, which brings a leading practitioner and a leading theologian, each dedicated to a life of Christian reconciliation, to share their stories and wisdom at Duke Divinity School. The program is designed to provide theological and ministry formation to students, pastors, lay Christians, and other ministry practitioners. Online registration is available to the public.

Confirmation of these tentative dates will be available by Nov. 30, 2010 for info and registration regarding the Breakout! 2011 urban boot camp.

Mission to Malawi
The CEF Durham chapter and CEF of Malawi continued a partnership in 2010 through prayer, training, ministry resources, and supplies. Joseph Khondowe and his staff (above) have reported over 9,500 children receiving Christ in school-based clubs.

Platinum Medallion Award 
was received at the CEF National Conference in Alabama on May 20, 2010. The award recognizes USA chapters with a balance in overall ministry and a 10% increase in Good News Clubs over the past three years. John Blake received the award on behalf of the Durham Area chapter.

Joe & Teri Adelman, Vice Chairman and Secretary, are teachers in the Durham Public Schools and attend Church of the Good Shepherd in Durham.

Wendy Clark is the owner of Carpe Diem Cleaning, the John O'Daniel Exchange building, and founder of Lewis & Clark Community Developers, LLC.

Diana Lisle is a teacher in the Durham Public Schools, ministers to youth and children in Durham communities, and attends First Baptist Church Durham .

John McCann is a writer for the Herald-Sun newspaper, hosts a radio program, and attends Grove Park Chapel in Durham.

Larry Parrish, is a coach, teacher, and founder of Junior Prep Stars basketball school and camps, he attends First Baptist Church Durham.

History and Ministry Milestone

1937 - Child Evangelism Fellowship®, Inc. is established in Chicago

1990 - John & Carolyn Blake serve on CEF® Board of Directors for NC

1993 - Child Evangelism Fellowship of North Carolina secures a charter for a
           
Durham Area Chapter

1995 - John Blake becomes a full-time Director of the CEF Durham chapter

1996 - More Than Gold sports outreach is founded by John Blake

1997 - Chapter’s ministry area grows to 8 counties north and west of Durham

1999 - Extra Good News kid’s worship begins weekly in the northeast central
            section
of Durham enrolling over 6,000 city kids thru 2005

2000 - Received the Gold Medallion Chapter award by CEF annually
            through 2004

2005 - 11% of all children reached annually receive Christ as Savior,
            counseled
by trained volunteers, and involved in weekly discipleship

2007 - Cassie’s Garden to enrich city kids founded by John Blake

2008 - Urban Missions Boot Camp training developed to fulfill the purposes
            of
CEF in urban communities across America

         - Durham Urban Missions Network formed for collaborative outreach to
           10 under-resourced communities in Durham

2009 - Over 850 unchurched kids started attending church (2002-2009)

2010 - Received the Platinum Medallion Chapter award: the highest
            CEF recognition
for excellence, innovation, and ministry balance

         - Breakout! urban boot camp, summer outreach, and ministry in over 60
           Good News Clubs enrolled 5,000 city kids in community-based,
           Gospel-centered, weekly discipleship programs
