Cassie's Garden
City kids living in 10 Durham under-resourced communities will be physically, mentally, and spiritually nurtured in Cassie's Garden throughout their growing school years. The Youth Life Foundation Center in the Cornwallis Rd. Apartments is the first location to incorporate Cassie's Garden into their program.
A room is dedicated for Cassie's Garden especially for special enrichment activities. Other communities scheduled to start their own Cassie's Garden are Carriage House Apartments, Liberty St. Apartments, and a new location in Northeast Central Durham. The first seeds in Cassie's Garden have been planted, but funding and volunteers are still needed. Planting a Cassie's Garden in all 10 target-communities will help CEF complete its
Systematic Model for Effective Ministry (see below). Personal involvement is necessary for city kids
to be nurtured in a beautiful Cassie's Garden.

Kathleen Blake, known to so many as Cassie, was a Duke University graduate and a devoted wife for 54 years to her husband, Jim Blake. In 1952 they were married in Duke Chapel and began a family of five children and seven grandchildren. She was also a teacher's assistant in the Durham Public Schools. Cassie enjoyed life, many friends and her family, especially while at the coast, playing on the beach, or riding her bike, or even on a raft drifting lazily past the closest pier or over the roughest, big wave. She loved to dance, sing, and throw birthday parties for her kids. In all her endeavors of life she blessed those around her with laughter, warmth, and service. Besides staying active and planting flowers in her garden, Cassie was devoted to Christ and a prayer warrior for many including the work of CEF.
