About CEF Ministries

Child Evangelism Fellowship® (CEF®) of North Carolina in Durham has a simple, but profound threefold purpose: evangelism, discipleship, and connecting local churches to unchurched children and families across our area.  We have a calling to serve city kids, block by block, in resource-challenged communities of Durham with Gospel-centered activities using the 10 Keys of the Kingdom for biblical leadership development.

2022, 2021, and 2020 Ministry Briefing and COVID-Relief Update

CEF Reports for 2022 and 2021 are on the Newsletter page. Our 2020 Ministry Briefing and COVID-Relief Update was held via Zoom for CEF supporters and friends as the CEF Durham Area Board members and its Director shared an exciting year-end report and update on how over 7,000+ children were reached even during the restrictive COVID pandemic.

Gospel In Action

We work year-round in select under-resourced and marginalized communities of Durham.  Many children and their families hear and see the Gospel in action as local and visiting ministry teams of Christians and indigenous leaders collaborate with CEF.  Biblical expressions of the Gospel are demonstrated as the 10 Keys of the Kingdom are used.  Students enrolled in urban boot camps, teachers leading Good News Club® activities, and pastors of local congregations are trained and guided to incorporate the 10 Keys for sustainable Gospel-centered ministry.

CEF Children’s Ministry History

CEF is 85 years old and currently ministers in nearly every country of the world. The Durham Area Chapter is 30 years old and was birthed out of prayer and John Blake’s passion for students lost without Christ. In the beginning every Bible club was taught by John and his wife Carolyn. Every envelope was stuffed and sealed by the Blake Family. Their passion increased and God strengthened the work of evangelism through many students and partnering churches. God gave favor and creativity as innovative programs and products were created: our More Than Gold sports camps, Extra Good News inner city club and Saturday church, as well as the 7 Most Important Things in the World, to mention a few.

Today, after embracing a biblical community development model of ministry, evangelism and discipleship, this CEF chapter has never been more effective. CEF partnerships with other ministries, churches, and civic organizations are mutually collaborative with city, community, and church leaders. Over 300 students and adults volunteer their time to spread the Good News of Jesus’ Love. 8,000-10,000+ city kids are enrolled annually. Many friends of CEF support its sustainable mission with their finances and lives through volunteering. Faith in God sustains this work. Come see… come join us!
