CEF DURHAM is partnering, once again, with one of its best friends in ministry, the Durham Rescue Mission to distribute Easter Baskets and Gospel-centered booklets for each child and family. CEF is seeking volunteers to help them on April 2nd during this “Drive-Thru Easter” event. Volunteers are needed to help distribute items and/or prayer walk for an hour between 10:30am-2pm. The following are past events during 2020 in which CEF Durham organized and offered, or through collaboration, CEF participated and ministered to children alongside its friends and ministry partners.
January-June Teen Tennis Academies, Good News Clubs held in local communities and schools, character education workshops being held at local middle schools and communities COMPLETED until COVID-19 April
April 14 Global 4/14 Day: Pray for children locally and around the world was held online
May 4-8 CEF International Conference at Ridgecrest Conference Center was CANCELLED due to COVID-19 restrictions
May 7 National Day of Prayer: Durham and other city locations ALTERNATE METHODS & VENUES were offered via Zoom online and neighborhood prayer walking
June 15-July 23 Koortbojian Foundation Summer Reading Camp for city kids grades 3-6 M-F each week 8:00 am – 2:00 pm was held at the Durham Nativity School (literacy, Bible via 5-Day Clubs, etiquette classes, snacks, game times, art, and character education were offered)
June 15-July 16 Camps for City Kids were to be held M-Th afternoons 1:00-4:00 pm with each of the 5 receptive weeks dedicated to a different sport: Tennis, Basketball, Soccer, Futsal, Fitness, Blacktop/Field Games but CANCELLED due to COVID-19 restrictions
September-December All Good News Clubs will be held online via interactive platforms and/or using CEF COVID-response resources for kids and community engagement events practicing current COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines.
December 23rd About half a dozen Durhamites helped CEF Durham Bring the Light and serve children and families in DURHAM at Christmas with one of its ministry partners, the Durham Rescue Mission. CEF distributed over 2,000 Christian / Gospel-centered books and activity booklets to every child that drove or walked through with their family at this event. Volunteers served for 4 hours 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.
February-May CEF conferences and workshops (speaking and leading re. City Kids) in North Carolina, Colorado, North Dakota, Wisconsin, and other western states
May 25 Community Worship Event 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at Long Meadow Park Durham
June 1 Church-wide Kingdom Celebration in Music 2:00-7:00 pm at Durham Central Park
June-July 5-Day Clubs in various locations in the Durham area until 8:00 pm M-F
June 17-July 26 Koortbojian Foundation Summer Reading Camp for city kids grades 3-6 M-F each week 8:00 am – 4:00 pm and to be held at Durham Nativity School and the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs Downtown Durham (literacy, Bible, and etiquette classes, sports, games, as well as discussion sessions around race and other social concerns)
August Back-to-School events in neighborhoods and with other ministries
September-November Teen Tennis Academies, Good News Clubs started, and character education workshops held
December Birthday Parties for Jesus and Christmas clubs
